Industrial Visit @ Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited

Industrial visits have been a part of the management and some technical curriculums for a long time now. The reasons behind these may be stated to be aplenty like learning practically, to make students aware of the industrial rules and regulations, providing exposure to the different workforces, providing an opportunity to have interactive learning, etc. but the most important and basic reason for these IVs is narrowed down to bridging the gaps in between the theoretical trainings and the practical learning for students and gain a hands on experience on the industry operations are executed.

The students of the post graduate program have a subject of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the 2nd semester of their curriculum. The visit was thus aimed to provide the students to give a clear idea about the actual concept of OPERATIONS and the various activities involved within it.

The basic idea behind this IV is get to know how an industry carries out its Critical operations in today’s competitive world as most of the students are not familiar with operational concepts.

Following are the learnings from the Industrial Visit:

  • To expose the students to an actual operational unit of an industry, with a number of complex activities, so that they have a point of reference during future studies.
  • To enable them to visualize the various concepts studied in the OSCM subject like, cycle of production, manufacturing systems (Batch Production), Branding, promotion and Marketing, etc.
  • To observe the different processes and activities occurring in the plant and connect them to the following techniques studied in their academic sessions:

I.            Lean manufacturing

II.           Six Sigma techniques

III.          Kaizen

IV.         The 5 S concept

  • To facilitate an interactive, practical and observational learning in a suitable operational environment.
  • To make them observe the ways in which the theoretical concepts are practically employed to achieve operational efficiency, through optimum usage of every possible resource.
