Industrial Visit @ Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited

Industrial visits have been a part of the management and some technical curriculums for a long time now. The reasons behind these may be stated to be aplenty like learning practically, to make students aware of the industrial rules and regulations, providing exposure to the different workforces, providing an opportunity to have interactive learning, etc. but the most important and basic reason for these IVs is narrowed down to bridging the gaps in between the theoretical trainings and the practical learning for students and gain a hands on experience on the industry operations are executed.

The students of the post graduate program have a subject of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the 2nd semester of their curriculum. The visit was thus aimed to provide the students to give a clear idea about the actual concept of OPERATIONS and the various activities involved within it.

The basic idea behind this IV is get to know how an industry carries out its Critical operations in today’s competitive world as most of the students are not familiar with operational concepts.

Following are the learnings from the Industrial Visit:

  • To expose the students to an actual operational unit of an industry, with a number of complex activities, so that they have a point of reference during future studies.
  • To enable them to visualize the various concepts studied in the OSCM subject like, cycle of production, manufacturing systems (Batch Production), Branding, promotion and Marketing, etc.
  • To observe the different processes and activities occurring in the plant and connect them to the following techniques studied in their academic sessions:

I.            Lean manufacturing

II.           Six Sigma techniques

III.          Kaizen

IV.         The 5 S concept

  • To facilitate an interactive, practical and observational learning in a suitable operational environment.
  • To make them observe the ways in which the theoretical concepts are practically employed to achieve operational efficiency, through optimum usage of every possible resource.

Workshop Name: Self Defence- “Goshin Jutsu”

Celebrated on 8th March, every year, the significance of International Women’s Day is increasing year after year and has become a custom today. It appears as a celebration of respect, appreciation, love and care towards women.

We at Indira Global Business School believe that today’s woman is no longer a dependent soul; she is Independent and self-reliant in every respect and is capable of doing everything. On the same lines, IGBS arranged a Self-Defence Workshop-“Goshin Jutsu” for all female students and staff members. Goshin Jutsu is a special training program especially tailored for women/children for self-defence. This workshop was conducted by JKNSKAI [KARATE DO INDIA]. They have successfully conducted Self Defence Workshops for many organizations of India and to name a few viz. Symbiosis College Students, eClerx Company, Whirpool Company, Axa Business Ltd, Mindtree Company and many more…

Self-defence is not just a set of techniques, it’s a state of mind and it begins with the belief that you are worth defending. The trainer, Sensei, Ashok Vetal has been teaching this skill to women, as a part of his Right to Safety Programme. Sensei Ashok Vetal and his team motivated the girl students to speak up about such crimes and gave those tips about what to do if they are trapped in an undesirable situation. They also gave the students a demonstration of street fight techniques in real life scenarios. Orientation and discussion were held on safety precautions at road, home, school, public places and also while using internet.

“It was a wonderful initiative on the occasion of International Women’s Day and thus emphasized that the knowledge of self-defence techniques and strategies is an invaluable resource, no matter where you are.” Quoted Ms. Amrita Patkar, First year MBA student of IGBS. All in all, it was an inspiring workshop which extended the confidence about their mental and physical ability to fight back.

From saving for a comic book to planning for retirement, effective money management is important for financial wellbeing. Indira Global Business School partnered with National Stock Exchange and conducted a Securities Market & Investor Awareness Programfor the students on 9th January, 2018. Students were exposed to capital market, debt and equity instruments and the penetration of the same in the economy. The session aimed at empowering them to become responsible, knowledgeable and intelligent investors.

Learning Outcome:

The interactive financial literacy sessions conducted by Mr. Sudhakar Kulkarni, helped students understand the benefits of investing in the capital markets and how to go about making wise investment decisions. Also the session made students believe ‘the power of compounding’, if they start investing early. Today’s financial services market offers a vast range of products and services for investors. This session equipped the students with the information, knowledge, and skills to evaluate the options and identify those that best suit their needs and circumstances.

It is popularly said as “SMILE HAS NO LANGUAGE”. Indira Group of Institutes has always believed that corporate conscience is about giving back to the communities that keep your business afloat, maybe even ones beyond your reach. On the same lines Indira Global Business School has always promoted the values of cultivating social responsiveness amongst its students and staff members. IGBS Family including the First Year and Second year MBA Students along with the Staff members volunteered for taking this idea of Spreading Smiles forward. The activity was carried out by students and staff members on individual and group basis. Some Students even made their peers and family members a part of this wonderful initiative.

“We enjoyed our time with them. But one thing we learned there is that even with disabilities these children are happy and are willing to do something great in their lives. And they motivated us by showing a lot of energy and enthusiasm” quoted Mr. Shrikant Shinde, First Year MBA Student who visited Karunanjali, Talegaon-A home for Differently abled Children. “I experienced a life changing moment when I interacted with the children of CSW’s [Commercial Sex Workers]. These children are so talented and have an urge to learn and get educated.” Replied, Mr. Sameer Solunke who visited the NGO, “Swadhar”-a 24 hour shelter and education centre for the children of CSW’s and was a part of their initiative called “MOHOR”.
